Wigan Athletic vs Liverpool betting preview
Wigan Athletic
League form: WLDDL
Home form: DLLLD
The Latics managed to end a run of six games without a win by prevailing 3 - 0 at fellow strugglers Reading. This, coupled with a 4 - 1 FA Cup win at Huddersfield Town will have worked wonders to restore confidence to a side that appear doomed at this stage of every season. Will boss Roberto Martinez be able to inspire them to yet another end of season escape to secure an 8th consecutive season in the Premiership? The visit of a resurgent Liverpool side will prove a stern test but the home side will be hopeful of a result having scored in their last ten games. Their poor defensive record has been a key factor in their poor league position; conceding 51 times in just 27 games this season. A clean sheet at Reading will have given them a huge boost but Maynor Figueroa, Paul Scharner and Gary Caldwell will have their work cut out trying to stop an in-form Luis Suarez.
Liverpool
League form: WLDDW
Away form: DDLWL
After spurning numerous chances in defeats to West Brom and Zenit st. Petersburg, the Merseysiders finally managed to finish their chances scoring eight goals in their next two games. They were unlucky not to progress in the Europa League with the usually reliable Jamie Carragher's poor backpass stopping them from advancing. Boss Brendan Rodgers will no doubt look to the positives and will be confident of getting a result against a poor Wigan side.
Match Prediction: Liverpool win (20/23 at /links.php?l=Victor Chandler)
Also: Both teams to score (13/20 at /links.php?l=Victor Chandler)
Despite possessing a decent record against the Reds, with no three draws and a win in their last four encounters, Wigan will find it tough against a Liverpool side currently on a high. With both teams in good scoring form at the moment, a few goals could be expected. The Latics will look to Arouna Kone as a source of goals here, the Ivorian has scored four in his last five league games. However, their poor home form, with no victory at the DW Stadium since November, will count against them. They are not to be written off, with many predicting a traditional late season surge from them, but it will be hard for Wigan to defeat a free-scoring Liverpool side.
